Located near the tranquil Takla Pahar in Bhairabpad, Tezpur, the Shree Shree Bhairabpad Dewalay is a sacred temple believed to be connected to the era of King Banasura. The temple holds significant historical and spiritual importance and is a peaceful destination for devotees and nature lovers alike. According to local belief, in the 1730s, the revered Vaishnav saint Srimanta Madhabdeva visited this site and offered prayers, which further sanctified the temple's spiritual value.

The temple enshrines a Shivlinga, symbolizing Lord Shiva, and also features a naturally formed “Charan Paduka” (sacred footprint), which is believed to be that of Lord Shiva or his fierce form, Lord Bhairava. Another unique attraction here is a naturally carved footprint on rock, known locally as the “Bhairab Pad”. Scientifically, it might be seen as a fossil imprint, but for devotees, it is a divine symbol. There is also a mark known as “Maya Sita’s Paduka”, and seasonal natural water flow can be seen in the vicinity, adding to the mystical aura of the area.

The temple is maintained, and rituals are performed by the Shree Shree Bhairabpad Dewalay Management Committee, which ensures daily worship, special pujas, and festival arrangements like Mahashivratri, which draws hundreds of devotees from across Assam and neighboring regions. Visitors from districts like Sonitpur and Darrang and even from other states come to seek blessings and experience the peace of this divine place.

In addition to its spiritual significance, the Bhairabpad area also offers a serene natural setting. The adjacent Takla Pahar is rich in biodiversity, medicinal plants, and scenic beauty. It serves as a calm hiking destination, where nature meets spirituality. However, the region is facing growing ecological threats due to uncontrolled tourist activity and unplanned development. The temple committee urges all visitors to maintain the cleanliness and sanctity of the site.

Adding to the cultural and artistic value of the site, there are beautiful paintings and depictions of Lord Shiva, ancient sages (rishis), and other deities around the temple area. These images not only enhance the spiritual ambience but also offer a visual connection to the stories and legends associated with Sanatan Dharma. and A small park has been constructed for tourists. This site is also a popular picnic spot, especially during the winter months when families and guests from Tezpur and adjacent villages come to rest and enjoy nature. The mix of spiritual significance and natural beauty makes Bhairabpad and its surrounds ideal for anyone seeking calm, pilgrimage, and a connection to nature.
