Takla Pahar is located in Bhairabpad, Tezpur. It is about ten kilometers from the town center, making it a quick drive or climb from Tezpur's bustling heart. This proximity allows visitors to easily access the hilltop viewpoint without venturing too far from the town, making it a perfect location for a quick escape into nature.

The area near Takla Pahar is relatively undeveloped, providing a peaceful and serene ambiance. The surroundings are perfect for those who want to explore nature, with several options for bird watching, photography, or simply enjoying the peacefulness of the area. Visitors can also explore adjacent Ouguri Hill, which is home to abundant biodiversity, temples, and other vistas.
According to local people, Takla Pahar gets its name from the word "Takla," meaning bald or bare, because the hill has a rocky, barren top with very little vegetation. Unlike the surrounding lush hills, Takla Pahar stands out due to its rugged and rocky appearance, which is why locals refer to it as "Takla," or "Bald Hill." The hill has been known by this name for generations, and its unique look is part of its charm.
Historically, locals believe Takla Pahar has always been an important natural lookout point. From the top of the hill, you can see the entire town of Tezpur and the Brahmaputra River, making it a strategic place for observing the area. While there aren’t many specific historical events tied to the hill, it is said that people have long used the spot to take in the views, enjoy the peaceful surroundings, and find solitude. Some even think that the hill's location might have once been used for defensive purposes, as it provides a clear view of the surrounding area.
The best time to visit Takla Pahar is from November to February. During these months, the weather is cool and pleasant, making it ideal for hiking and enjoying the views. The skies are clear, and sunsets are beautiful. It's best to avoid the monsoon season (June to September) because the trails can get slippery and hard to hike. So, for the best experience, plan your visit in the winter months.
To reach Takla Pahar, The Tezpur ASTC Bus Station and Dekargaon Railway Station are located about 5 to 6 kilometers apart, which translates to roughly a 10–15 minute drive depending on the route and traffic conditions. These two transportation hubs serve as key entry points for visitors traveling to Tezpur from different parts of Assam and beyond. If you're traveling to Takla Pahar from either of these stations, you can easily hire a taxi or an auto-rickshaw for a convenient and quick journey. Both the bus station and the railway station are well connected to the main town, and local transport options are readily available.
