Ganesh Ghat, Tezpur: Historical place by Brahmaputra

Ganesh Ghat is one of the oldest and most beautiful places in Tezpur, Assam. It is located by the side of the Brahmaputra River and is known for its Ganesh Temple and peaceful surroundings.

Ganesh Temple is situated to the north of the Brahmaputra River. 'Tezpur' Known as the 'City of Eternal Love', it was the site of a love story that caused one of the most legendary celestial battles. The legend speaks of Banasura, a mighty Asura king who ruled the Kingdom of Sonitpur (present-day Tezpur). where a carved stone image of Lord Ganesha can be found beside the temple. The statue, approximately 3 feet tall, is believed to date back to the 9th–10th century. The area surrounding the temple is known as Ganesh Ghat. While the original idol remains a historical relic, the current temple structure is a modern construction, adding to the spiritual ambience of the site

According to local beliefs, King Banasura, a devout follower of Lord Shiva, established several temples in the region, including the Mahabhairav Temple, which houses a massive Shiva Lingam believed to be one of the largest in the world

The Ganesh Temple at Ganesh Ghat is thought to have been a place of worship for Banasura's family. Initially, it may have been a simple open-air shrine where prayers were offered to Lord Ganesha before proceeding to nearby temples like Mahabhairav and Bhairabi. The Bhairabi Temple, located on the outskirts of Tezpur, is associated with Banasura's daughter, Usha, who is said to have worshipped the goddess Bhairavi there.

The ghat's entrance is marked by a majestic sculpture of Lord Hanuman lifting the Dronachal mountain—a direct nod to the epic Ramayana. Over the centuries, the temple complex has undergone several restorations but continues to preserve its spiritual core and cultural charm
