Tucked away in the town of Biswanath Chariali, Assam, Biswanath Ghat is a destination that surprises every traveler with its calm, spiritual charm and stunning river views. Located on the northern banks of the mighty Brahmaputra, this ghat is not just a place of worship but a peaceful getaway for those looking to connect with nature, culture, and history.

Visit Biswanath Ghat during the winter season, which is the best time to go. As the Brahmaputra’s water levels drop, wide stretches of golden sandbanks appear, making the area look almost like a natural beach. Locals build small temporary temples on the sand, and morning prayers create a soothing atmosphere. It's a perfect spot to sit quietly, watch the sunrise, and listen to the gentle river flow.

One of the most unique parts of this place is its history. The ghat is often called "Gupta Kashi," or the “Secret Kashi,” named after the legendary Shiva temple believed to have been built here in ancient times. While the original temple was partially swallowed by the river, its ruins can still be seen during winter, giving visitors a glimpse into the region’s spiritual past. The Bordol Temple, built by Ahom King Rajeswar Singha, still stands and is a must-visit for anyone interested in old Assamese architecture.

Another highlight of the trip was the short boat ride to Umatumuni Island, just across the river. The island is peaceful, with temple remains and panoramic views of distant hills and tea gardens. It’s a perfect place to take photos, explore nature, or enjoy a quiet picnic. For those who want to stay overnight, the Green Ashiyana Island Resort on the island offers simple, clean rooms with basic facilities and a view of the river.

Traveling to Biswanath Ghat is easy from Biswanath Chariali town, which is well-connected by road and rail. From the town, it’s about a 20–30-minute ride to the ghat. The roads are smooth, and the local people are friendly and always ready to help.

If you're looking for a place that offers spiritual peace, scenic beauty, and a deep cultural vibe, Biswanath Ghat is a hidden gem worth exploring. It's not crowded like popular tourist spots, yet it leaves a lasting impression on your heart. Whether you're a solo traveler or a nature lover, this riverside escape in Assam deserves a place on your travel list.
